I ran some tests last night, and I didn't have any problems. I tried
TMPDIR on both Stacker and non-Stacker volumes, and didn't have any problems.
I tested it with a simple program which malloc'd a 10MB chunk, and then
stepped through it byte by byte.

I have a different system now, so I can't go back and recreate the problem.
Perhaps, as Bill Metzenthen mentioned to me in e-mail, it's due to
a bug in the swap code in go32 which computes the last available byte
address in "conventional" memory.

Now that I'm using QEMM386 instead of EMM386, this could affect it, too.

Thanks for the suggestions.
