It might seem a stupid question but are you sure to have enough free
space on the drive where gcc is writing its temporary files ?  Gcc
follows the environment variable TMPDIR to put its temporary files.
You will find that you might need more than twice the source file size
for temporary files.

I use a Ramdisk as a temporary device and gcc used to indicate
premature eof when there weren't enough place.
