Wonkoo asks:
Then, DJ's future DPMI host automatically turned off if Window is
started? If DJ write DPMI 1.0 host in future, doesn't it mean that
a future program written for this may not be compatible with DPMI
0.9 of Windows? DJ wrote in some other message, DPMI 0.9 will be a
minimum requirement. How can it be? Isn't it true that some DJGPP
programs written for DPMI 1.0 cannot be run under Windows DPMI 0.9?
(if OS's DPMI is used)
Yep. That's true today---viz the "why can't I run graphics under
Windoze" FAQ. I'm sure that DJ & Charles & Csaba et al will give the
same attention to this problem that they've given in the past. What I
mean is, when was the last time you worried about whether you were
running under nothing, XMS, EMS, VCPI, or DPMI? I don't even worry
about the last, since all the graphics I run is X Windows and DV/X +
QDDVX doesn't care DPMI or not. As long as you stick to the standard
library, you'll be fine. The library (that is, the embodied genius of
DJ and the ninety-'leven elves) will do everything that's possible
under dippy-me 0.9---you won't have to worry about it.
But you still won't be able to do nice stuff under Windoze. Not
until somebody writes a DJGPP interface to the Windows API---and then
you'll have to write Windoze programs, not DJGPP programs. Sorree!
If you don't like that, tell Serdar Argic that "Gates" is an Armenian
name.... (I know, that wasn't worthy of me :-} )
