There does seem a fair bit at times ...

It is tough to get through some of it sometimes.

Please followup to turnbull AT shako DOT sk DOT tsukuba DOT ac DOT jp or to news.groups,
not to DJGPP.

To try to head off this thread at the pass:

There has been a lot of discussion over several years now about the
issue of traffic. For several reasons it is desirable to move the list
if possible, rather than impose further burdens (digestification, etc)
on Clarkson (the volunteer who runs the Clarkson listserv (UCSD
listserv package, in fact) says most of his listserv problems are
DJGPP-related; nothing against DJGPP, just the huge traffic).

For these reasons a Usenet newsgroup has been proposed (Charles
Sandmann, proponent), the RFD period is now more-or-less over, as the
request for a vote has been submitted, and the Call for Votes should
be imminent. There has been a backlog in the voting process. An
announcement of the vote will be posted to djgpp-announce as per
normal Usenet procedure.

Of course those without Usenet access will be concerned about loss of
access if the newsgroup is created. A bidirectional news-to-mailing-
list gateway is planned, has already been tested, and noone should
lose service in any way. (The RFD does not mention digestification,
etc. If you have concerns about the news-to-mail gateway format, you
can post to news.groups, or mail me, and I will summarize to those who
have contacted me, to news.groups, and to the proponent.)

I have a copy of the RFD [proposal], and will be happy to mail it to
anyone who is interested. It will also be repeated in the CFV which
will be posted when the vote comes up. Charles Sandmann has put the
contents of the comp.os.msdos.djgpp discussion from news.groups on
ftp.neosoft.com in /pub/users/s/sandmann/rfd_djgpp.zip.

There is some scope for discussion even at this stage. However,

please do it via Usenet in news.groups

Both for DJGPP bandwidth reasons and for Usenet procedural reasons,
any further discussion of the proposed news group should be done in
news.groups or via email. I volunteer to serve as a resource for
general questions about how this all will work (voting process, what
is Usenet?, etc) to take that kind of load from Charles (I want my V2
:-). Caveat: I have no official role in this, so of course I can not
speak for the proponent or for the Usenet Volunteer Votetakers.
