It's not the printer itself that can do this --- after all, the
so-called GDI printers are notorious for not being able to joust about
*anything* on their own.

And since these methods are only available from the DOS box within
Windows, the GDI driver would *be* running. It still may not support
this mode of operation, of course, but in principle, it should.
