Just for the record, it has always been my desire that we treat
everyone with respect and caution, which includes things like not
publically complaining about the form of a request but instead looking
at the content, and like not complaining that a question is a FAQ but
instead answering with a reference to the FAQ.

We do not need etiquette police here. Useful answers to questions,
without insulting or demeaning the questioner, will in the long run
(in fact, *has*) result in a very useful and friendly forum.

It's the old rule: "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say
anything at all." Or at least say it privately.
