In fact, I cannot start Emacs again from the /gnu/emacs/bin directory
either. I get the same error as the one I posted first.

In case this is getting confusing, here is what happened,
chronologically:

1. installation of DJGPP
2. tried Emacs from C:\DJGPP\GNU\EMACS\BIN. It took a long time to
start, showing just a blank screen with a blinking cursor in lower
left cornet, but seemed to work fine
3. tried Emacs from C:\ which failed (error posted here)
4. tried to unzip Freeimage, which failed
5. changed to Linux to unzip Freeimage on Freedos disk
6. started compiling Freeimage in Freedos, which worked fine for a while
(some time later)
7. tried Emacs from C:\DJGPP\GNU\EMACS\BIN which failed with errors
about directories (same as above)

/Tomas
