I can not see what your real goal was.

And as Colin told you, pcb program can now import schematics direct, so
you may not need gsch2pcb script.

What may happened to you is that you generated an empty footprint,
because not all elements of an pcb file can be converted to a footprint.
Or have you tried to store you file to a write-protected device?
