Yes execute exactly once without stuck in the middle is imporant. Even though there is not enough time to make a perfect implemented guaranteed to not stuck in the middle at first the algorithm should be such that it is possible to make a perfect implementation.

I think this may be tricky to deduce from for example old schematic or old update file so it might be possible only solution is to make gschem store this information. Other solution might be to send an event but this will of course not work if communication is done via file.
