After perusing the Borland manuals (this took a while, because there are a lot of them), I found the key: set the environment varialbe DPMIMEM to "maxmem n" where n is the amount of memory (in kilobytes) that you want the borland system (bcc, make and other tools) to reserve for itself. I have 16M of memory on my system, and chose the value 4000 (i.e. 4M). Things now seem to work just fine. Victor S.
