You can do that by embedding the symbol. In gschem, press "I" for the libarary browser, just above the "close" and "ok" buttons there is a chooser which probably says "Default behavior - reference component", press that one and choose "Embed component in schematic", and you are done. Another ways to handle the situation is to copy all used symbols to the project directory. I don't know how to embed used symbols after-the-fact, perhaps someone else knows.
