The linker, ld, will automatically search FIRST for the import lib libgdbm.dll.a BEFORE searching for the static lib libgdbm.a. The only way to change this behavior is to call 'ld -Bstatic' (aka 'ld -static') or 'gcc -static' to FORCE ld to search only for libgdbm.a. If you were previously linking with a command similar to: ld -o foo foo.o -lgdbm but foo was created by linking statically against libgdbm.a -- then that is a bug (or installation error). Please do NOT do wacky things like add ".dll" to the end of a library spec. --Chuck
