I copied over gnu emacs 19.24 from the public archives (there's one at
gatekeeper.dec.com but there should be others), used the makefile in
the .../msdos directory, and that worked.  Well, I had to fake out a
few of the references to Unix file handling commands (rm, mv, etc.).
But emacs itself worked perfectly straight out of the box.  It does
handle accents etc. if you follow the directions for setting that up
in the on-line documentation.
