Yes, it is possible to pack executables so that large areas of constant bytes
are represented compactly.  The antique version of Microsoft FORTRAN that I
use has a routine called exepack() that does just that for the PC.  Pretty
much guaranteed not to work with djgpp output, but it stands as a proof of
concept at least.
