Subject: disk error

I have a djgpp compiled program (a bigger one, about 5.5 MB size)
which runs smooth on one system (486/33/128K/16MB) while on two other
systems which have both the same but different hardware to the first one
that program causes a read error on drive C:, I forgot the exact text, but it is
the typical message you get when a hard drive error occurs and you can only
escape with abort/ignore/retry. I did a disk check on both systems and didn't
get any bad sectors.

Some additional info:

All systems use QEMM
All systems use SMARTDRV.EXE (from WIN3.1)
All systems are 486/16MB

Has anyone observed similar problems - I vaguely recall that there were?
I do not mean the rare disk hang problems.
